There will be an information meeting for all Transition Year students on Wednesday the 20th of September who may be interested in joining the Gaisce programme this year.
What is Gaisce?
Gaisce – The President’s Award is an award in Ireland, earned by young people between the ages of 15 and 25 for participating in several activities for a certain period. There are three awards: bronze, silver and gold.
How do I achieve the award?
The award is granted to students who take part in four key challenge areas.
- Community Involvement
- Personal Skill
- Physical Recreation
- Adventure Journey
What does it involve?
To achieve the Gaisce Bronze medal students need to commit to one area of community involvement, a personal skill, some physical recreation and organise an adventure journey.
If you are willing to commit one hour a week to each challenge area for thirteen weeks, then Gaisce is for you. You can pick up new skills, take on new hobbies or assist your local community by helping charitable causes and most of all have fun along the way.
The instructors for Gaisce in Collinstown Park are Mr Dowling and Ms Minnock. If you are interested or have any questions speak to them.
Gaisce is a journey you will enjoy every step of the way. You will learn and develop skills that you never thought you had. Most of all, it is a positive experience and one which will be full of fun and adventure.
