Cian McCabe Success At Journalism Awards

Congratulations to Cian McCabe (Transition Year) who was recently awarded at the Press Pass Awards ceremony at Twitter Ireland HQ. Cian was presented with his award by Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton and  NewsBrands Ireland Chairman Vincent Crowley.

Cian is a member of Mr Dowling’s journalism class and his feature article ‘My Life With Epilepsy’ earned him second place in that category.

There were 10,000 participants in the Press Pass Programme this year which is run in conjunction with NewsBrands Ireland and Twitter Ireland. In 2012 NewsBrands Ireland devised a new Newspapers in Education (NiE) initiative aimed at Transition Year students and designed to support its own and the Government’s youth literacy objectives by getting more students reading newspapers. That initiative is Press Pass.

This is the first year that Collinstown Park has taken part in the initiative and it has proved to be a successful enterprise. To be shortlisted in the top 16 was a huge achievement and winning second place in the category is one that his family and school are very proud of.

Well done to all the Collinstown TY students who entered the Press Pass competition this year and well done to Cian on his success.
