Sixth Year Graduation

On Friday, the 26th May, the Sixth Year students had a busy day with a variety of ceremonies to celebrate their six years in the school. The Sixth Year students gathered with staff in the sports hall in the morning and celebrated their final day together in Collinstown with a subject award ceremony, a breakfast, good humour, and the traditional slide show recollecting their six years in the school. Images of the graduating class as baby-faced first years caused much amusement and embarrassment in some cases.

Later that evening, the Graduation ceremony saw the students in all their finery, with their parents and guardians, bid a fond farewell to their school.

Sean Kennedy was given the responsibility of Master of Ceremonies and Shiane Whelan was tasked with giving the graduation speech and both rose to the occasion. Shiane spoke movingly of her time in Collinstown Park Community College.

Thank you to everyone involved in organising this occasion. Best wishes to our graduates for success in their exams and their lives ahead.

Inklinks Showcase

On Tuesday 23rd May  Inklinks held a showcase of their work during the year, in the library. It was great to see so many faces turn up and listen to our work. Friends and family, new and old Inklinks alike shared in a moving, fun and ultimately uplifting session of poems, stories and film. This is an event that will definitely be repeated next year. Well done to all students involved.

TY Trip to Causey Farm

On Thursday 18th May some of the TY students got to experience Causey Farm.

They all really loved getting down to basics, eating their own home-made bread after a busy day on the farm and bog. They got to meet the farmyard animals and  even got to milk a cow.

Transition Year Book Launch-‘What’s the Stories’

The launch of the Transition Year book ‘What’s the Stories’ took place on Wednesday evening in the assembly hall in the school.

The night was a great success with teachers, parents, friends and family congregating to celebrate the success of our 19 published co-authors. The book was also celebrated by special guests such as Roddy Doyle (Author), Sean Love (Co-founder of Fighting Words)Marian Keyes (Author), Michael McLoughlin (Managing Director of Penguin Publishers Ireland) and Deirdre Keyes (Education officer of DDLETB).

Students read extracts from their stories, gave an impression of what the whole project was like from the students’ perspective and received their very own book for the first time. This was mixed with words from our guests on the evening and a performance from the school choir. Everyone gathered for refreshments after to round off a lovely evening.

Mr Dowling and all the students involved in the Fighting Words module would like to thank Ms Duffy, Ms Friel and all the teachers who helped in any way throughput the year and on the night itself to make it the success it was.

Reading Awards for First Years

Niall de Burca told stories to all 1st Years this morning in the library. As usual the stories were captivating. Concentrated silence, laughter and the odd scream could be heard throughout the event.

After the story telling, Niall presented all 1st years who had reached their personal reading target with a certificate. To finish off a very successful morning, nineteen students were presented with a certificate acknowledging them as exceptional readers. They also received an Easons book token.
