Early Childhood Care and Education (6m2007) QQI Level6

 Aim:

This course will prepare learners to advance their skills and knowledge and to develop the capacity to work in senior positions in Early Years Services.

 Course content:

Mandatory components

  • Child Development (6N1942)
  • Early Childhood Curriculum (6N1944)
  • Childhood Social Legal and Health Studies (6N1945)
  • Work Experience (6N1946)
  • Communications (6N1950)

Elective components

Two components from the following list will be selected by the college subject to availability

  • Special Needs Assisting (6N1957)
  • Child Psychology (6N2023)
  • Early Learning environment (6N1933)

Course duration:

One – Two half days per week. Please note as this course is subject to numbers and funding the number of modules available each year may vary from two modules over one morning or four modules over two mornings.

Entry Requirements:

QQI Level 5 in Early Childhood Care and Education or equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an assessment in English.

Work Experience:

Work experience is a compulsory part of the course. 120 hours work experience required over the duration of the course. Garda clearance required.

Certification:

QQI Major Level 6 component award with the option of building to a QQI Level 6 Award in Early Childhood Care and Education.

Prospects:

Successful completion of this course enables learners to assume senior positions in Early Years Services. Learners may also progress to further study.
