Sixth Year Retreat

The annual Sixth Year retreat took place on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st October. Twenty-one students accompanied Mr McHugh, Ms Monaghan and Mr Reilly  on the two day retreat to Glencree, Co Wicklow. The retreat was a great opportunity  for the Sixth Year students to take some time out and reflect on their own lives and future. The teachers facilitated sessions on faith and personal and social development and the students participated fully. There was also plenty of time for relaxation and fun.

Overall the retreat was a great experience.

PE- Sky Sports for Living

On Wednesday the 19th of October 3O participated in the Sky Sports for Living Program. Irish Champion and European Silver medallist Brian Grehan who is an ambassador for the program visited our school. He introduced himself to the students and told them what it was like for him when he was at school, juggling both his studies and his love for sport. He then played some fun games which the students really enjoyed. I am happy to say Brian will be back in a few weeks to complete the program.

TY- Fighting Words

This year Transition Year students from Collinstown Park Community College are taking part in the very popular ‘Fighting Words’ project headed by Roddy Doyle in Dublin 1.

Under the guidance of a great team of volunteers students will compile a series of short stories which will be published in the New Year. This creative writing program takes place once a week on Tuesday afternoon and allows the students to be original, innovative and most importantly imaginative with their writing. The very friendly and relaxed surrounds of the Fighting Words centre has given the student freedom to express themselves in a non-pressurised setting.

The experiences that these Transition Year students will gain throughout the year are many. They will develop skills such as learning independently and working together in groups. Students will have a self-directed approach to their own learning and will have the opportunity to watch the project grow from writing the first line of their first story to the finished, bound and illustrated book of short stories.

He is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. The exhibition included observational drawings, early graphite portraits, “The Plunger” a work from his paper pools series and a drawing he did using the i pad. He is interested in pushing the boundaries of his practice using new technologies.
