We’re supporting Seán

Seán Daly (class of 2009) was the first leader chosen for this year’s Operation Transformation on RTÉ.  He was an outstanding student in the school when he was here, involved in many activities both in class and extra curricular. He is a tremendous Ambassador for the school and has the support of the staff and the entire school community.

Enterprise Club fundraising

Two Second year students from the Enterprise Club, Anthony Emmet and Andrew Byrne Cullen made a difference this Christmas. For the Christmas Trade Fair they set up a business making sweet treats such as home made cakes and sweets.  They also created fun trivia quizzes that customers could enter.  All the money raised went to the local organisation Clondalkin Helping Homeless. They raised €85 which they presented to a representative of Clondalkin Helping Homeless.

They wish to thank Ms Jones, the teacher in charge of the Enterprise Club, for all her help.

Christmas Breakfast for adult students

To mark the end of term a Christmas Breakfast was organised for students.  It gave them a time to relax, take a break from completing assignments and catch up with students on other courses.  In a hotly contested competition the Healthcare class won the ‘Most Christmassy class’ award, pipping the Business class at the post!

YSI Fundraising

A number of fundraising initiatives have been organised recently by students here at Collinstown  Park Community College. As part of their Young Social Innovators (YSI) project, 4th year students began by collecting donations of hats, scarves and gloves to give to people in need in Clondalkin. To further assist the students then organised a raffle of a basket of assorted gifts and chocolates. They managed to raise almost €87.00. They donated the winter clothing along with the money to the local Clondalkin based organisation Tus Nua.

Other money that was raised in recent weeks including money donated at the recent school Carol Service in St Peter Apostle Church in Neilstown and donations given by students of Collinstown Park amounted to almost €326. This was also donated to Tus Nua. Well done and many thanks to all who donated and who organised these fundraising events.

Gospel Choir Carol Service

The Gospel choir had their annual Christmas Carol service in Neilstown Church on Tuesday 13th December which was a great success. Bringing together past and present pupils with staff members, the music was a very special and collaborative effort and its testament to the school’s involvement in the local community. It warmed the hearts of all who attended and filled them with Christmas Spirit.

Fighting Words Update

Tuesday 13th December  marked the last day of Fighting Words before the Christmas break for the 19 students that are part of the exciting book project. The so far untitled book will be a compilation of stories from each student and is proving to be a tremendous experience for all.

At this stage every student has the first draft of their story completed and are ready for the drafting and re-drafting stage. Sticking to a strict timetable the writers will be finished their final draft by March, after this their collection along with cover or (book jacket) will be sent to print.

As part of the last session Michael McLoughlin, MD, Penguin Random House Ireland gave a session on what happens once the final draft is sent into a publishers. The writers gained a great insight on how their book will go from a file on a USB key to a book on the shelf of a book shop. They also learned about designing the cover of the book, marketing techniques and advice for promoting the book locally and in the school.

To wrap up the last session and to celebrate Christmas, pizza and chocolate were enjoyed by all. A great combination in anyone’s book.

A big congratulations to all the students who have been working so hard up to this point every Tuesday. A thanks also must go to Jean, Roddy and the huge team of volunteers who have made this process such an enjoyable one so far.

Mr. Dowling

Winter Wonderland

Collinstown’s Winter Wonderland is in its seventh year and every year gets better and better.

This year it took place on 7-9th December. Masterminded by John Whelan and Ms McHugh ably abetted by Transition year students and Sports Hall staff, they put on a wonderful spectacular for hundreds of visitors.  We had students from the two primary schools as well as children of our Adult students.  The Transition year Elves did an outstanding job, helping the children on their way to visit Santa, through the face-painting and play zone to Santa’s grotto and the Magic Sleighride.

Below are some pictures arranged into Visiting Groups, Elves at work and Santa at work and finally some small groups.
