Learners will also complete Patient Moving & Handling and First Aid (CPR) Training.
Full-time: 1 year (five half days per week) * or Part-time: 2 years (2 half days per week, 4 components each year)*
*We aim for all classes to take place between the hours of 9.10 am and 2.10 each day. Applicants must be aware that sometimes it is necessary to schedule classes outside of these times.
Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI/ FETAC Level 4. Mature students with relevant life or work experience. All candidates will be interviewed individually. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an assessment in English to establish the most suitable level of study for them.
Work Experience is a compulsory part of this course. Garda Vetting is required and will be organised through the college.
QQI Level 5 Major Award in Nursing Studies. Certificate in Patient Handling. Certificate in First Aid.
Students who successfully complete the Nursing Studies course may progress to a Nursing Degree course at Third Level through the Higher Education Links Scheme or gain employment in the Health Care sector.
Learners who have successfully completed this course have progressed to study Nursing in Trinity College, DCU, UCD and in the UK. Students have also progressed to other Third level colleges including NUI Maynooth, ITT and ITB to study for degrees in Social studies and Social Care areas. Other successful learners have gained part-time and full-time positions as Health Care Assistants in a variety of services.
