Students from Scoil Mochua come to CPCC every Tuesday morning to work with Transition Year students. Scoil Mochua is a local school which caters for students with physical disabilities. Many students are in wheelchairs and have different ways of communicating.
5th and 6th Year Leaving Cert Art students went to “The MAC” in Belfast on Monday 10th October to see an exhibition “David Hockney – I draw, I do”. This was the first significant exhibition of Hockney’s work in Ireland to date. He celebrates his 80th birthday next year. He was an important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. The exhibition included observational drawings, early graphite portraits, “The Plunger” a work from his paper pools series and a drawing he did using the i pad. He is interested in pushing the boundaries of his practice using new technologies.
On Friday 14th October the Return to Learning group had a very enjoyable trip to Trinity College. They had a one hour guided tour of the College added to by the reminiscences of their tutor Mr Quentin Nea, a Trinity graduate. They then had the chance to see the Book of Kells and the wonderful Long Room Library. Photos below.
A group of TY students got to visit the RDS on Wednesday 12th October. They took part in workshops, heard from influential speakers like Alma Walsh and Nikki Bradley. There was also a variety of fun activities for the TY students to try out like badminton, tennis, squash etc. The idea behind the event is that students will leave the event with new knowledge to help them live happier, safer, and more fulfilling lives.
On Wednesday 5th October elections were held to select representatives of second, third, fourth and fifth year students for the Student Council.
The elections were run by 3O class as part of their CSPE action project.
Those elected were:

Third year: Leah Fitzpatrick, Jamie Whelan and Jamie Oliver
Fourth year: Chantelle Armstrong, Laythan Ward and Tyrone Kearns
Fifth year: Stella Nkanu, Paul Connolly and Jordan Moore

On Thursday 6th October some of our Second Year students went on a Geography Field Trip to Mitchelstown Caves and the Rock of Cashel in Co Tipperary. Everyone had a great time.
