Social and Community Care QQI Level 5

Aim:

To prepare learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in community organisations and services for people with a range of different needs

Course content:

Mandatory components

  • Care Provision and Practice (5N2705)
  • Safety and Health at Work (5N1794)
  • Human Growth and Development (5N1279)
  • Communications (5N0690)
  • Work Experience (5N1356)

Elective components

Three components from the following list will be selected by the college subject to availability

  • Social studies (5N1370)
  • Care support (5N0758)
  • Community Addiction Studies (5N1834)
  • Young People and Society (5N2002)
  • Special Needs Assisting (5N1786)
  • Word Processing (5N1358)

Course Duration:

Part-time: 2 years (2 days per week, 4 components each year).

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI/ FETAC Level 4. Mature students with relevant life or work experience. All candidates will be interviewed individually.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an assessment in English to establish the most suitable level of study for them.

Work Experience:

Work Experience is a compulsory part of the course. Garda Vetting is required and will be organised through the college.

Certification

QQI Level 5 Major Award in Community Care (5M2769).

Successful completion of the course will enable learners to seek employment in the social and community care area or to take up further study at Level 6 in Further Education Institutes or at third Level through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
